Simon Ible

Simon Ible is Director of Peninsula Arts, the public arts umbrella programme of the University of Plymouth and Director of Music of the University of Plymouth Orchestra and Choral Society. He is Artistic Director and Conductor of the Ten Tors Orchestra and Director of the Tavistock Music and Arts Festival.

His recent guest conducting includes The Two Moors Festival Opera, Two Moors Festival Chorus, East Cornwall Bach Choir and Wells Festival Orchestra.

Simon studied conducting in Hanover with the German Opera Maestro, Klaus Donath. He spent much of his music career working in the Bath area as conductor of the Chandos Singers, Trowbridge Philharmonic Choral Society, Bradford-on-Avon Choral Society and the Bath Georgian Festival Orchestra and Chorus.

From 1989 to 1997 Simon was Artistic Director and Resident Conductor of the professional Bath City Orchestra and Assistant Conductor and Chorus Master of the international Bath City Opera. He made his opera-conducting debut in 1991 with Purcell’s ‘Dido and Aeneas’, which starred the world famous mezzo-soprano Della Jones and in 1992 Simon had the honour to work in rehearsal with American star soprano Renee Fleming on a new production of Puccini’s ‘La Boheme’. Simon has worked with many of Britain’s leading singers: Sarah Walker, Stephen Varcoe, Benjamin Luxon, Jean Rigby and such esteemed instrumentalists as Nicholas Daniel, Emma Johnson, Peter Katin, Nona Liddell, Elizabeth Layton, John Anderson, Benjamin Frith, Piers Adams and the late John Wilbraham.

Simon and his artist wife Karen moved to Devon in 1997 – they now live in the idyllic Cornwall village of Botus Fleming close to the Tamar river and Kingsmill estuary.
